The talking pheasant had Robert de Niro off to a T, and the duck kindly posed by a sign saying 'Humpty Dumpty' as if it was trying to convey a message. As you see. But horses evidently like children, and my missus and youngest offspring clearly like the Dudwell stream that runs through, and annually floods, Rudyard Kipling's Lower River Field at his gorgeous house Bateman's in East Sussex. The field features in the poet's 'The Land':

When Julius Fabricius, Sub-Prefect of the Weald,
In the days of Diocletian owned our Lower River-field,
He called to him Hobdenius - a Briton of the Clay,
Saying: "What about that River-piece for layin' in to hay?"

The rest is, IMHO, worth spending a few moments reading for the sheer English history of it, even though it's by Kipling. Do you like Kipling? I don't know, I've never kippled. The old ones are the old ones eh what?

Not up to RoberttheBob, mind you.

Powered by Photoblog.com

Ah... that night train from Paris, full of mysterious Greta Garbo women in furs sans knickers, probably, with long cigarette holders - just the holders, they couldn't smoke except in 5 sq yards of the bar - and the Oz lady with her 20 year old niece in the next compartment... huh!... that was their cover. Doubtless spies for somewhere or other. Then Berlin, city of the grim and the sans souci, Amsterdam, Venice of the North sans gondolas, The Grand Place Brussels at night avec moules et frites and back to Paris and that amazing Train Bleu restaurant... highlight of 2007 (floats away in state of ecstacy)...

Powered by Photoblog.com
